In conjunction with the Department of Homeland Security and the US Intelligence Community, the Interagency Council for Applied Homeland Security Technology (ICAHST) and the National Reconnaissance Office are sponsoring the Counter IED Informational Workshop and Expo at the J.D. Hill Conference Center at the National Reconnaissance Office, on August 19, 2008. This event which will focus on Intelligence Community Efforts / Plans for the protection of the homeland against Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).

IEDs have been used by terrorists in numerous attacks over the years and remain as a weapon of strategic influence and a formidable threat to world security. They are easy to make, difficult to defeat, and cause large-scale death and destruction. This informational workshop and exposition will provide a forum for representatives from the law enforcement, counterterrorism, and intelligence communities to assess the domestic threat and address other key issues and critical mission needs in support of IED defeat and prevention for the homeland. Emphasis will be placed on the activities of the Intelligence Community including advancing research and technology to prevent IEDs and sharing information with federal, state, and local partners.
